There’s no doubt that the consistency of Emma Raducanu is improving with every tournament she plays. We’re seeing the sort of tennis from the former US Open champion that will see her establish herself in the future as a consistent seeded player at WTA events if she can maintain this run of positive results. Her power is overwhelming opponents and the hard court surface remains a good one for the Brit.
The draw in Montreal has been kind to Raducanu on paper as she takes on 32nd seed Peyton Stearns in round two. The American was beaten by Raducanu in each of their two matches last season in Washington and Seoul respectively. Of all the seeded opponents Raducanu could’ve drawn, to get Stearns has to be seen as a positive from her perspective.
Stearns was beaten in the first round at Wimbledon and in Washington she was defeated in straight sets by 45-year-old Venus Williams. Raducanu has had the edge over her in the past and is well worth backing to do so again this time around.
