Emma Raducanu got off to a good start in Beijing as she defeated Cristina Bucsa in straight sets. She broke the Spaniard's serve on four different occasions and created 11 break point opportunities overall as she won 6-3 6-3. The British number one also saved seven out of eight break points on her own serve.
She now faces Jessica Pegula after she easily beat Ajla Tomljanovic. A rampant Pegula won the first seven games of the match and did not even face a break point as she wrapped up a 6-0 6-3 win after just an hour and one minute.
The head-to-head is 2-1 in favour of Pegula, who has won their two matches on hard court. They last faced each other in the quarter-finals of the Miami Open earlier this season, with the American winning a close match in three sets.
Raducanu has the game to dominate some of the exchanges against Pegula and can push the 2024 US Open finalist into a deciding set.
