Emma Navarro had to dig deep in the opening round, eventually overcoming Lois Boisson in a match interrupted overnight by rain. The American led by a set and 4-2 before the suspension but then lost the second after returning on Monday and fell an early break behind in the decider. Navarro responded well to win 7-6 (6) 6-7 (1) 6-3. 

Caty McNally enjoyed a more comfortable outing in the first-round, as she beat Anouk Koevermans in straight sets. McNally conceded just the two break points on her way to winning 7-5 6-1. The American had lost in the second-round of the Cincinnati Open last time out.

Navarro leads the head-to-head 2-1. She thrashed McNally in the second-round of this event last year, but McNally did win their most recent encounter at the Libema Open. The 2024 semi-finalist’s consistency and ability to extend rallies make her the slight favourite, although McNally will be dangerous if she is willing to attack the net.
