Emma Navarro was tested substantially by Yafan Wang of China, but came through with a 7-6 (11-9), 6-3 win. Such a result should serve her well going forward, with Navarro demonstrating her clutch capabilities in the first-set tie-breaker. However, the tenth seed will need to cut down on her double faults, having served nine of them in the first round.
