Emma Navarro was on the end of one of the biggest shocks of Roland Garros as she was defeated 6-0 6-1 by Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in the first-round. The American was never in the contest and must now regroup ahead of the grass court season. She impressed with a run to the quarter-finals of Wimbledon last year in just her second appearance at the All England Club.

She will take on Beatriz Haddad Maia after she defeated two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova in round one. The Brazilian recovered from a slow start to level up the match and then earn a break early in the third set, as she won 2-6 6-4 6-4.

They have played each other five times before, with Haddad Maia leading the head-to-head 3-2 though all of their matches have taken place on clay. They have already played twice this season, with Navarro coming out on top in Stuttgart but Haddad Maia gaining revenge with a victory of her own in Strasbourg a month later.

This is likely to be a close match, but Navarro may be low on confidence after such a bruising defeat and will take some time to adjust to the grass in comparison to Haddad Maia. We favour the Brazilian on this occasion.
