Emilio Nava vs Ugo Humbert prediction

Emilio Nava produced a brilliant performance to stage an upset in round one of the Canadian Open, beating Zizou Bergs in straight sets. Nava made a fast start to the encounter and then came from 4-2 down to dominate the second set tiebreak, winning 6-1 7-6 overall. Nava usually competes on clay but has enjoyed a decent spell of form during this North American swing, having also made the quarter-finals in Los Cabos.

He is now set to face Ugo Humbert. The Frenchman has not competed since his dramatic loss to Gael Monfils in the first-round of Wimbledon. Humbert was two sets to one up but couldn’t close the match out against the 39-year-old. This early exit would have been a disappointment after some strong form on grass leading into the slam, which included two semi-finals. Humbert does hold a title on a hard court this season, albeit indoors, with his triumph in Marseille in the middle of February.

Humbert may be rusty after some time out, which could provide some hope for Nava, but his class is likely to prove the difference over three sets.
