Emiliana Arango vs Qinwen Zheng prediction
Emiliana Arango continues her run in the main draw as a lucky loser. She was defeated by Ella Seidel in the final stage of qualifying but was still given entry in the tournament, winning her first-round match against Suzan Lamens in straight sets. She is at her highest ranking of 50 in the world and reached the final of the Guadalajara Open a fortnight ago.
Her opponent Qinwen Zheng is making her return to the tour after injury had disrupted her campaign. The 2024 Olympic gold medallist has not featured since a first-round loss at Wimbledon to Katerina Siniakova due to an elbow injury, which required surgery. She still had a strong year up to that point, getting through to the semi-finals of the Italian Open and last eight at Roland Garros, along with two quarter-final finishes at the Sunshine Double events.
They played each other for the first time earlier this year in the second-round of the French Open, with Zheng demolishing Arango 6-2 6-3. She may be short of match fitness for this one, but she will receive wonderful support from her home crowd and should have enough quality to advance.
