Last year’s finalist Emiliana Arango picked up her first win of the season and ended a run of five straight defeats with a win over Anastasia Potapova in round one. A nervy first set saw six breaks of serve in total, with Arango failing to serve it out at 5-4 up. Nevertheless, she dominated the tiebreak and controlled much of the second set to win 7-6 (0) 6-2.
She now goes up against fourth seed Marie Bouzkova, who received a bye in the first-round. The Czech has not enjoyed the best of starts to 2026, with four losses out of six matches in total. Furthermore, Bouzkova has lost her last three matches in a row, and last tasted victory in the first-round of the Australian Open last month.
