Ella Seidel recovered from a poor start in her last qualifying match to enter the main draw in Dubai. She dropped the first set against Kamilla Rakhimova but edged a tight tiebreak in the second and came through to win 1-6 7-6 (5) 6-4. This followed up a straight sets win over Anastasia Potapova. Seidel has not enjoyed the best of starts to her season but does have some momentum on her side after those two recent wins.
She goes up against Cristina Bucsa in the first-round. The Spaniard is struggling for form at the start of 2026 as she has lost four of her five matches. She won her first match of the season in Brisbane against Anna Bondar but has not won a match since that point. Events in Abu Dhabi and Doha saw her lose in the first-round to Sonay Kartal and Dayana Yastremska respectively.
Bucsa is ranked higher in the rankings, but she will be low on confidence after a poor stretch of form. Her consistency should keep her in the match, but Seidel’s ability to strike first could help her cause.
