Elise Mertens vs Polina Kudermetova prediction
Elise Mertens will be hoping to get back to winning ways in Wuhan as she is without a victory in her last three matches. Her run at the US Open was ended in the third-round and she then suffered early defeats in Guadalajara and Beijing. She has still won two titles this season, with one being on a hard court in Singapore, while she also reached another final in Hobart right at the start of the year. Her record at the 1000 events have not been particularly impressive this year, having only got past the third-round in one event.
Polina Kudermetova is her opponent in the first-round. The Russian managed to make it through the qualifying stages to advance. She suffered a long winless run during a stretch of the season but has picked up a few more victories during her most recent tournaments. However, she has failed to make the third-round of any event since doing so at Indian Wells all the way back in March.
Despite a slight dip, Mertens will be the clear favourite to get through this match comfortably.
