Elise Mertens came from a set down to beat Anna Bondar as she advanced to the next stage of the Canadian Open. Osaka leads the head-to-head 5-3, but it’s 3-3 on outdoor hard court. They met earlier this year at the Bad Homburg Open, with the Japanese player winning 6-3 6-3. She has been one of the most consistent players over the past two months, and Mertens will have to be at her best to get a result.
