Eliot Spizziri produced a miraculous recovery to book his place in the round-of-16 at the Hellenic Championship. The American made a terrible start to the match as he lost the first five games to Laslo Djere, going behind early on. He served for the second set but was broken by the Serb and it went to a tiebreak. He looked down and out at 6-3 in the breaker but he won five points in a row, saving three match points in the process, to level the match up. He broke early and after saving two break points in a crucial next service game, romped away with the set to win 1-6 7-6 (6) 6-2.
He will now play Nuno Borges. Borges defeated home favourite Stefanos Sakellaridis in straight sets. The Portuguese number one did not face a break point on serve and won a commanding 89% of his first serve points as he won 7-6 6-3. This was his first win in three matches.
Spizzirri only just came through his first-round match and is likely to find it even tougher against Borges here.
