Eliot Spizzirri qualified for the tournament after wins over Chun Hsin Tseng and Vit Kopriva. He has also shown some form on the Challenger Tour in recent months, making the final in Brest just a week ago. He entered the top 100 of the world rankings just last week and has two titles on the Challenger Tour this year. Furthermore, he made inroads at an ATP event for the first time as he got through to the last eight of the European Open in October.
He faces Laslo Djere in round one. He ended a seven match losing run, which stretched all the way back to June, in Bratislava just a few days ago. It’s been very tough going for the Serb over a considerable period of time. Djere showed his quality during the clay court season, as he got through to the quarter-finals in Buenos Aires and then produced some of his best tennis to win the title in Santiago.
