Eliot Spizzirri vs Jannik Sinner prediction
Jannik Sinner continues his quest for an Australian Open ‘Three-peat’ against American underdog Eliot Spizzirri.
The two-time defending champion blitzed to a 6-1 6-4 6-2 victory over Australian wildcard James Duckworth last time out to make it 17 straight wins since a rare defeat in Shanghai back in October.
Indeed, Sinner has developed into a winning machine, particularly at this Grand Slam. The Italian has lost just five sets across a 16-match run of victories in Melbourne with 18 of those sets seeing him prevail in two games or under.
That makes this contest akin to climbing Everest for world number 85 Spizzirri, even if the 24-year-old is operating at a career high.
This will be just the 20th tour-level match of the American’s career, but he is in excellent form having reached the third round at a major for the first time courtesy of a shock win over Joao Fonseca and a five-set success over Yibing Wu.
For some, Spizzirri could be seen as a slight danger given he has nothing to lose, but Sinner is a whole new level of opponent on this stage and it is going to come down to how many games the four-time major winner gives up.
We expect it to be minimal in another routine success for the second seed and it’s hard to see the underdog getting more than six or seven in total.
Eliot Spizzirri vs Jannik Sinner tip: Under 25.5 games
