Elina Svitolina will aim to dash the hopes of another Brit when she meets Sonay Kartal in the quarter-finals.
The top seed was too good in the big moments as she edged Katie Boulter 7-5 6-4.
The Ukrainian will now face Kartal for the second time after claiming a 6-3 6-1 win in their maiden clash in Madrid last year.
Kartal has looked very sharp in Auckland as she followed up an impressive win over Janice Tjen with a 6-3 6-1 rout of Ella Seidel.
This will be another level and Sonay will certainly relish the challenge, but Svitolina does everything that little bit better and should progress in similar fashion to Madrid.
