Elina Svitolina vs Naomi Osaka prediction

Naomi Osaka could easily have found herself eliminated in the second round in Montreal after facing match points against Liudmila Samsonova. But the Japanese star pulled through and has since gone on to play some of her best, most consistent Tennis in a long time, beating both Jelena Ostapenko and Anastasija Sevastova in straight sets whilst dropping just seven games in the process.

Elina Svitolina has been excellent across the entire tournament and is set to drop a set. After thrashing Washington Open runner-up Anna Kalinskaya 6-1, 6-1, the Ukranian knocked out fifth seed and recent Wimbledon finalist Amanda Anisimova 6-4, 6-1 and her high fitness levels should serve her well over the course of this quarter-final.

However, new coach Tomasz Wiktorowski has Osaka performing at a really high level right now, reminding everyone as to why she is a multiple Grand Slam champion on the hard court. Her power on this surface cannot be underestimated and as strong a defender as Svitolina is, countering Osaka will be a tall order.

Expect a close encounter between these two, but if Osaka doesn’t run out of gas the longer this match goes on, she may just be the player to edge it.

Elina Svitolina vs Naomi Osaka tip: Naomi Osaka to win 2-1
