Elina Svitolina vs Katie Boulter prediction

Katie Boulter’s first match under Maria Sharapova’s former coach Michael Joyce was a positive one as she made a winning start in Auckland.

The Brit claimed a 6-3 6-3 win over Yuliia Starodubtseva and will now take on top seed Elina Svitolina. 

The Ukrainian will be a significant step up in class and she made short work of Varvara Gracheva by posting a 6-3 6-1 victory. 

Svitolina won their only previous match in straight sets at the Australian Open back in 2020. 

Boulter is a tougher nut to crack nowadays and the impact of Joyce will be interesting to see in this early test of the relationship. 

Katie may well make her mark here and can hit freely with expectation low, but Svitolina’s counter punching style is likely to be too solid and consistent in the big moments.
