Elina Svitolina, the world number seven, heads into this in excellent form, having won the Italian Open earlier this month with an incredible run of victories against Elena Rybakina, Iga Swiatek and Coco Gauff. Anna Bondar had beaten her in the first round of the Madrid Open before that but Svitolina got her revenge as she eventually saw off the Hungarian in the first round here, winning from behind with a 13-point tiebreak in the final set.
Kaitlin Quevedo has come through four matches to reach this stage of the tournament, having overcome Nuria Brancaccio, Teodora Kostovic and Guiomar Maristany in qualification before a straight sets defeat of Leolia Jeanjean in the first round. 20-year-old Quevedo is playing at just her second ever Grand Slam and so it is already a rip-roaring success for the world number 126.
