Elina Svitolina vs Iga Swiatek prediction
Iga Swiatek will have renewed belief as she targets her fifth Roland-Garros title in six years.
The Pole produced a stunning fightback to down an in-form Elena Rybakina 1-6 6-3 7-5 to chalk up her 25th win on the spin at the tournament.
Standing in the way of her return to the last four is 13th seed Elina Svitolina who fought off three match points before beating last year’s finalist Jasmine Paolini 4-6 7-6 6-1.
This will be the fifth meeting between Swiatek and Svitolina with the Pole leading 3-1 in the head-to-head, including a 7-6 6-3 victory in Miami this year.
The Ukrainian’s only success came on the grass at Wimbledon two years ago, while their only clash on clay saw the five-time Grand Slam champion prevail 6-2 7-5 in Rome back in 2021.
No one has won more matches on the dirt than the revitalised Svitolina this year and she will have the French crowd in her corner.
However, Swiatek’s shaken confidence coming into this tournament will have only grown stronger with her recent victories and that success over Rybakina may well have a similar impact to the one that saw her survive match point against Naomi Osaka last year before going on to lift the trophy.
Swiatek may not have the same unbeatable aura this year but she should still have the weapons to see off Svitolina on her favourite court, particularly as the types of player the Pole generally has trouble with are the big servers and ball strikers - and Svitolina is more at home as a counter-puncher which will allow the fifth seed to dictate with that leaping forehand.
