Elina Svitolina brushed aside Anastasia Potapova in the third-round of the Canadian Open as she kept alive her hopes of a second title at the event. The Ukrainian was in dominant form, winning 6-1 6-1 after just one hour. She had to come from a set and a break down to beat Jessica Bouzas Maneiro in her opening match.
She will now face Amanda Anisimova after the two-time Grand Slam finalist fought back from a set down to defeat Nikola Bartunkova. This was the American’s first match since her third-round loss at Wimbledon over a month earlier, and a slow start saw her lose the opening set. Despite levelling the match in dominant fashion, Anisimova found herself 4-2 down in the decider before reeling off the final four games to complete a 3-6 6-0 6-4 victory.
Svitolina leads the head-to-head 4-1 and 3-1 on outdoor hard court. She has been the more consistent performer out of the two this season, and her game could prove too much for Anisimova.
