Elina Svitolina vs Xinyu Wang prediction

Elina Svitolina will bid to claim her first ASB classic title at the second time of asking when she meets home hope Xinyu Wang in the final on Sunday.

The Ukrainian was runner-up to Coco Gauff in 2024 but now has another chance to win the tournament after seeing off 18-year-old Iva Jovic 7-6 6-2 in the last four.

The top seed will be the favourite to clinch the 19th title of her career against China’s Wang, who saved a match points as she fought back to down fourth seed Alexandra Eala 5-7 7-5 6-4.

This will be their second meeting with Svitolina leading their previous clash 6-2 6-1 on the grass of Wimbledon in 2024.

Seventh seed Wang will be desperate to secure glory in front of her home fans in just her second WTA final, but it will be a tall order against the know-how, resilience and in-form counter-punching of Elina.

Both players are happy to roll up their sleeves in a battle but nerves may also play a role and Svitolina's greater experience in a showpiece match makes her more likely to stay ice-cool in the key moments.
