Elena Rybakina vs Tereza Valentova prediction
Ninth seed Elena Rybakina made light work of American youngster Julieta Pareja in the first round, claiming a 6-3. 6-0 victory over the 16-year-old.
The former Wimbledon champion has historically struggled at the US Open, never going beyond the third round, but she enjoyed some positive results in the build-up to Flushing Meadows, reaching the semi-finals of both the Canadian and Cincinnati Opens.
This is uncharted territory, meanwhile, for the up-and-coming Tereza Valentova, who made her Grand Slam debut at the French Open this year and is now through to the second round in New York after an excellent three-set victory over Lucia Bronzetti.
The 18-year-old also came through qualifying to take her place in the main draw, and looks a real prospect for the future.
This will be an excellent test for the youngster, who notably reached the semi-final of the 250-rated Prague Open last month, and it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if she was take take a set from a player who hasn’t previously excelled in New York.
