Elena Rybakina vs Renata Zarazua prediction
This is a dangerous second round encounter for ninth seed Elena Rybakina, especially when considering that Renata Zarazua pulled off a notable upset recently in the first round of the Canadian Open. The Mexican defeated British star Katie Boulter, before forcing the seeded Jelena Ostapenko into a third set in round two, eventually bowing out. But those two matches underlined the threat posed by Zarazua on the hard court and she’ll no doubt look to take those performances with her into the Cincinnati Open.
Rybakina will need to manage herself carefully, having competed in Montreal as recently as Wednesday, losing in the semi-finals to home favourite and eventual champion Victoria Mboko. It was a difficult defeat to stomach for Rybakina, who took the first set 6-1 before losing the following two sets 7-5, 7-6 (7-4) respectively. Such a gruelling contest must have been felt by Rybakina both mentally and physically.
With that in mind, don’t be surprised if Zarazua capitalises on Rybakina potentially not being on top of her game. She took a seeded opponent to three sets in Montreal and it’s well worth backing her to do the same here.
