Elena Rybakina reached the Washington Open quarter-finals after getting past Victoria Mboko in two sets. The 18-year-old threatened at times, breaking back after Rybakina had gone a break up early on in each set, but the former Wimbledon champion was the more consistent player and her experience showed during the most vital moments.

She will now face Magdalena Frech after she thrashed veteran Venus Williams in the last round. The Pole has struggled for form all season but is finally into her first quarter-final of the campaign.
