Elena Rybakina brought Tatjana Maria’s 10-match winning run at Queen’s Club to an end as she beat the defending champion in three sets. Maria, who defeated Rybakina on her way to the title last year, looked on course for another upset as she led after the first set. However, Rybakina would break right at the end of the second to draw level. The two-time Grand Slam champion raced clear in the decider to win 6-7 (4) 7-5 6-0.
She will now face Katie Boulter in the next round. The 29-year-old advanced to her fourth quarter-final of the campaign after a comfortable win over Jaqueline Cristian. Boulter came from a set and a break down against Leylah Fernandez in the previous round, but this was far more straight-forward as she won 6-1 6-3.
Rybakina leads the head-to-head 2-0 and 1-0 on grass. She easily got past Boulter in the third-round of Wimbledon three years ago. The former British number one has impressed so far this week, and she will have home support on her side for this one. Rybakina is the clear favourite, but she is likely to be tested.
