Elena Rybakina will face Jasmine Paolini in a blockbuster semi-final after dismantling Ajla Tomljanovic.
The Kazakhstani raced to a 6-0 6-2 win over the forlorn Aussie to tee up a sixth career showdown with the Italian.
Paolini had earlier hit back to thwart Belinda Bencic and grind out a 5-7 7-5 6-3 victory.
The diminutive second seed leads the head-to-head 3-2 and has won the last two, including a straight sets triumph at the WTA finals in Riyadh last year.
Paolini’s ability to hustle from deep and scrap out points from way behind her baseline have helped her to neutralise Rybakina’s powerhouse game in the past and it could be another grind in this one.
Rybakina looked flawless against Tomljanovic but if Paolini can extend the rallies and lure a flurry of unforced errors, she could come out on top yet again at the expense of the big-hitting third seed.
