Plenty of eyes will be on 17-year-old wonderkid Iva Jovic of USA, who is already set to compete in her third second round match in a Grand Slam, having reached this stage at both the US Open last year and the Australian Open earlier in 2025. After gaining a wildcard entry to Roland Garros, Jovic got the better of Mexican Renata Zarazua in a three-set thriller.
Such a win will have done wonders for the youngster’s confidence but the competition stiffens up for her now with 12th seed Elena Rybakina lying in wait. She was also involved in a three-set encounter in round one, defeating Julia Riera with her excellent first serve proving vital to her victory. Seven aces and a 71% accurate first serve was testament to that and it will prove a big weapon against Jovic.
As well as Jovic has done to make it to a three consecutive Grand Slam second round, this is likely to be where the journey ends once more for now. Rybakina is in good form following her finals appearance in Strasbourg and will be expected to wind up too strong for her opponent here.
