Elena-Gabriela Ruse vs Lilli Tagger prediction

Elena-Gabriela Ruse has climbed back to number 66 in the world. Her standout result of the season came indoors in Linz, where victories over Dayana Yastremska and Jelena Ostapenko carried her into her first WTA 500 semi-final. One of her best performances of the season was her comfortable victory over Linda Noskova at the Bad Homburg Open, with Noskova going on to win Wimbledon just a few weeks later. The Romanian arrives in Beijing after advancing to the Seoul quarter-finals, where she lost to Anna Bondar in three sets.

Lilli Tagger has continued to develop across the year on the WTA Tour. The 18-year-old is now ranked inside the top 60, having started 2026 well outside that territory. Her major breakthrough came in July when she captured her maiden tour-level title in Prague, defeating Daria Snigur in the final. Tagger has not played since the US Open, where she reached the second-round before a battling three set loss against two-time Grand Slam finalist Amanda Anisimova. 

Ruse brings greater experience and more recent match practice, but Tagger has already shown how dangerous she can be on this surface this year.
