Elena-Gabriela Ruse vs Hailey Baptiste prediction

Elena-Gabriela Ruse’s form has dropped off a cliff ever since her fabulous run to the final of the Libema Open two months ago. She is on a five match losing streak, after first-round defeats at Wimbledon, Prague, Montreal and Cincinnati, with the last three being straight set losses. 

Hailey Baptiste was dumped out of the first-round of the Cincinnati Open after a surprising defeat to world number 211 Clervie Ngounoue last time out. Baptiste struggled throughout the match and was broken on no more than six occasions. She did make the second-round of the Canadian Open a week earlier, but was uncompetitive against Elena Rybakina, losing in straight sets. A quarter-final appearance in Auckland in her first very tournament of the year still stands as her best result of the season.

The head-to-head is 1-0 in Baptiste’s favour, but this is their first match on a hard court. Baptiste easily defeated Ruse 6-3 6-0 in the first-round of the Charleston Open three years ago. Neither player inspires much confidence at the moment given their current form and there’s little to separate the two.
