Elena-Gabriela Ruse vs Elise Mertens prediction

Elena-Gabriela Ruse progressed to the round-of-16 at the Libema Open after a straight sets win over Tamara Korpatsch. The Romanian broke in the fifth game of the first set and took the lead. She did go 3-0 behind at the start of the second but quickly recovered as the set was decided by a tiebreak. Ruse went on to complete a 6-4 7-6 (5) win.

Elise Mertens began the defence of her title with a dominant win over Bianca Andreescu. The Belgian produced a strong performance as she did not even concede a break point and won 91% of her points on first serve, claiming a 6-1 6-2 victory after just an hour and five minutes.

This is a rematch of last year’s final, which saw Mertens comfortably win in straight sets. Overall, she has a commanding record against Ruse as she leads 4-0. She is one match away from a first quarter-final of the season, and if she replicates her first-round display here, she will be very difficult to stop.
