Elena-Gabriela Ruse vs Elise Mertens prediction
Elena-Gabriela Ruse lost her first set of the tournament but still came back to defeat Elisabetta Cocciaretto and make the final in Rosmalen. She beat the Italian 2-6 6-4 6-3 and is into her first final on grass and will aim to win the second title of her career.
She will take on third seed Elise Mertens in the final after she staged a miraculous comeback to beat two-time winner Ekaterina Alexandrova. The Belgian was uncompetitive in the first set and looked to be down and out in the second with Alexandrova serving for the match at 5-3.
Nevertheless, she broke back before saving match points in two service games and in the second-set tiebreak, winning it 9-7. She was down a break in the third but reeled off three straight games to earn a dramatic win. Mertens saved 11 match points in total and won 2-6 7-6 6-4.
This will be their first match on grass, but Mertens has won all three of their previous meetings. Ruse deserves enormous credit for reaching the final as a qualifier, but the world number 25 may have a new lease of life after her battling victory in the last four and we predict her to win.
