Elena-Gabriela Ruse vs Anastasia Potapova prediction

Elena-Gabriela Ruse made it through to the next round of the Canadian Open after a straight sets win over Peyton Stearns. The Romanian dominated the first part of the match, winning the first set without dropping a game. She was tested in the second but crucially broke towards the end to claim a 6-0 7-5 victory. This ended a three-match losing streak for Ruse.

Her next opponent is Anastasia Potapova, who received a bye in round one. She did compete at the Washington Open last week, winning her opening match against veteran Venus Williams but then losing to Diana Shnaider. It’s been a strong season for Potapova, with a semi-final appearance in Madrid and a run to the final of the Linz Open. She also advanced to the round-of-16 at Roland Garros, beating defending champion Coco Gauff along the way.

Potapova does have eight defeats from her 14 hard court matches in 2026, but she is the favourite to defeat Ruse.
