Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Jelena Ostapenko prediction

Jelena Ostapenko overcame an early hiccup to defeat Anastasia Zakharova and reach the second round in Doha.

The 2025 runner-up would have been concerned her recent poor form was going to continue after losing a first-set tie-break, but recovered to claim a 6-7 6-3 6-4 win.

The Latvian will now take on Ekaterina Alexandrova for the 12th time with Ostapenko 6-5 up in the head-to-head, wining the last four in a row.

Indeed, the most recent three have been in straight sets, including a 6-4 6-4 triumph on the Stuttgart clay last year.

Alexandrova arrives on the back of reaching the final in Abu Dhabi, but the Russian will be disappointed to have been well beaten by qualifier Sara Bejlek there.

The eighth seed has the better recent form, but when Ostapenko likes playing against an opponent, it always spells danger- just ask Iga Swiatek.  

Alexandrova will be the favourite here so the odds on Ostapenko relishing the match-up and hitting one of her positive streaks look pretty good.
