Ekaterina Alexandrova got through to her fourth final of the year in Ningbo last week. However, she was unable to win a second title despite taking the first set against Elena Rybakina. The Russian entered the top 10 of the world rankings for the first time in her career earlier this month. Alexandrova will want to end her best season with another deep run.
Jaqueline Cristian is her opponent in the round-of-16. Cristian powered through her first-round match against Alina Charaeva as she won 6-2 6-3 after one hour and 34 minutes. She served extremely well, with a first serve percentage of 82%, giving up just one break point in the process. Cristian also enjoyed a strong tournament in Ningbo as she got through to the last four and she now has four wins from her last five matches.
Alexandrova has produced strong hard court results all year and should have enough to beat Cristian comfortably and make yet another quarter-final.
