Donna Vekic reached a ranking high of 17 at the start of last year, and her season began with promise as she got through to the round-of-16 at the Australian Open and Indian Wells. However, the momentum faded away as she struggled for form throughout the rest of the entire season. She could only make her first quarter-final in her last tournament of the year and her ranking has plummeted to 60.
Alexandra Eala stunned the tennis world last March as she advanced to the semi-finals of the Miami Open as a wildcard at the age of just 19. This included a famous win over Iga Swiatek. She continued her upwards trajectory with her first ever WTA final at Eastbourne, before winning her first WTA 125 title in Guadalajara towards the end of the season. She is ranked just outside the top 50 of the rankings.
Vekic began last year with a high level of performance, but Eala is a player with potential and will be difficult to stop.
