Diane Parry produced one of her best victories of the season as she came from a set down to beat 21st seed Elise Mertens in the second-round of the Cincinnati Open. She won 75% of her first serve points across the match and converted five of her 12 break point opportunities. Parry completed the win after two hours and 20 minutes. Parry has also beaten the likes of Amanda Anisimova and Clara Tauson this season.
She now faces fellow countrywoman Lois Boisson for a place in the round-of-16. The 2025 Roland Garros semi-finalist advanced after Belinda Bencic was forced to retire. Bencic withdrew from the Canadian Open last week due to a hip injury, and unfortunately, she was unable to continue at this event after Boisson had won the first set 6-3.
Boisson has looked comfortable so far this week, but Parry’s win in the previous round cannot be ignored. Furthermore, her greater variety could be particularly valuable here.
