Diana Shnaider will aim for her first quarter-final of 2026 when she meets lucky loser Katerina Siniakova in Adelaide.

The Russian posted an excellent 7-5 6-3 victory over Leylah Fernandez to tee up a third career meeting with the Czech.

Siniakova made the most of her reprieve following defeat in qualifying to claim her first victory of the year with a thumping 6-0 6-1 win over Dayana Yastremska.

The world number 46 will be the underdog against ninth seed Shnaider, but she did win their most recent clash 6-4 6-4 in Wuhan last year. 

It’s 1-1 in terms of the head-to-head with Shnaider winning a topsy-turvy clash at this very tournament 12 months ago by a 6-3 0-6 6-0 scoreline.
