Number 15 seed for the tournament Diana Shnaider, once the world number 11 last year, has enjoyed an impressive year so far, having reached the semi-finals of the French Open last month. Shnaider also reached the final of the Madrid Open and won the Italian Open on clay earlier this year.
Eva Lys comes into this one on the back of being knocked out in the first round at the Bad Homburg Open by Emma Navarro. The German has drifted from her career best ranking of 39 in January and she needs a good tournament to get back on track.
Wimbledon comes at an awkward time for the stuttering Lys and Shnaider, albeit not on her favourite surface, will be expected to get through relatively comfortably.
