Diana Shnaider’s best finish at the French Open is her lowest of all four Grand Slams, having only progressed as far as the second round back in 2023, with a first round exit last year. However, the 21-year-old has plenty of time to put that right and it would be no surprise if 2025 turns out to be her breakthrough year at Roland Garros, with Shnaider coming into the tournament in good form.
The Russian’s last seven matches on clay have ended with her winning five of those games and Sobolieva will find it very difficult to try and contain Shnaider, whose aggressive playstyle on court may well end up overwhelming her opponent here, who is likely to be worked hard as she’s pulled around the baseline.
Any outcome other than Shnaider moving on to the next round would be a real surprise here and backing her to do so in two sets appears to be a shrewd move.
