Diana Shnaider vs Anastasia Potapova prediction
Diana Shnaider suffered a downturn in form throughout last year, with her ranking dropping to 21 after achieving a high of 11 last May. The Russian struggled at the Grand Slams, with her best result coming at the Australian Open where she got through to round three. She did pick up a title in Monterrey, but she seemed to struggle at the big tournaments overall, making just one WTA 1000 quarter-final throughout the season.
She faces Anastasia Potapova after receiving a bye. Potapova advanced from the first-round after a three set win over Daria Kasatkina. She recovered from a 4-2 deficit in the first set to take the lead, though Kasatkina hit back with a late break of her own in the second. She made a fine start to the third, racing to a 3-0 lead at the start of the decider, but was broken again. However, she would eventually seal a 7-5 4-6 6-4 win.
Shnaider will enter as the favourite for this one, but this will be a tough match to start her 2026 campaign.
