Dhakshineswar Suresh enters the main draw as a lucky loser, having lost in the second-round of qualifying to Abedallah Shelbayh. The 26-year-old is ranked 400 in the world, and his best result of the campaign was a semi-final appearance on the Challenger Tour in Bloomfield Hills. He did compete at this tournament last year, losing in the first-round to Mariano Navone in straight sets.

Suresh faces Marcos Giron. The American failed to qualify for the Cincinnati Open after a defeat to Henrique Rocha, while he also suffered a surprising straight sets loss to Cruz Hewitt in Washington at the end of last month. Giron produce some of his best tennis at the start of the season, highlighted by his semi-final runs at back-to-back events in Hong Kong and Auckland, but his North American summer swing has not gone according to plan.
