Denis Shapovalov vs Learner Tien prediction

Denis Shapovalov heads into Toronto on the back of his second title of the season in Los Cabos. The Canadian was in a class of his own all week in Mexico, not dropping a set in any of his four matches and comfortably beating Aleksander Kovacevic in the final. This will have been a much-needed boost for the 26-year-old after a period of poor form throughout the clay and grass court seasons.

He has now set his sights on a deep run at his home tournament and faces teenager Learner Tien first up. The 19-year-old defeated Colson Smith 6-4 7-5 in the first-round, winning 81% of his points on first serve. This follows an encouraging run to the last-16 in Washington, which included a win over Andrey Rublev.

Shapovalov will be the clear favourite, but he must be wary of Tien, who excels as the underdog and has four top 10 wins to his name this season. If the Canadian performs as strongly as he did during his week in Los Cabos, he is likely to come out on top.
