Denis Shapovalov overcame the challenge of Elias Ymer to make it through to the semi-finals of the Stockholm Open. Shapovalov took the first set but failed to serve out the match on two occasions in the second, with Ymer finding his footing in the tiebreak to level up the encounter. The Canadian recovered and dominated the third set as he won the last five service games to win 6-4 6-7 6-1.
Casper Ruud will be his next opponent as the former world number two battled his way past Sebastian Korda to advance. The Norwegian raced into a 3-0 lead in the first set but was pegged back by Korda, who ended up taking it on a tiebreak. Ruud broke in the middle of the second and crucially saved four break points when he was serving to force a deciding set. Ruud edged ahead in the decider and held his nerve to win 6-7 6-4 6-4.
Ruud leads the head-to-head 2-1 but Shapovalov won their most recent encounter, which happened to take place earlier this season indoors. The Canadian defeated Ruud in the final of the Dallos Open. Nevertheless, he has still been rather erratic at times so far this week and Ruud's consistency may give him the edge.
