Denis Shapovalov continued the defence of his title with a straight sets win over Aleksandar Kovacevic in the round-of-16. The Canadian produced one of his greatest serving performances as he hammered down 24 aces, won 94% of his first serve points and did not concede a single break point on his way to a 6-4 6-4 win after just one hour and six minutes.
He will now play Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. The Spaniard broke at the start of both sets as he recorded a comfortable win over Alex Michelsen. Davidovich Fokina, who is still searching for his first title on the ATP Tour, also won 6-4 6-4.
Davidovich Fokina starts as the slight favourite and will be hoping his consistency can extend the majority of the rallies and force Shapovalov into errors from either wing. Nevertheless, the Canadian won this event last year and will be difficult to stop if he finds his rhythm early and continues to serve well.
