Dayana Yastremska has lost five of her nine matches and is yet to make the quarter-finals of a tournament this season. Her best result remains a third-round appearance in Brisbane right at the start of the year. Yastremska competed in Doha last week, winning her first-round match against Cristina Bucsa in three sets but then going on to lose to Elina Svitolina.
She faces Janice Tjen. She is at her highest ranking of 46 in the world. The 23-year-old hasn’t made a particularly strong start to her 2026 campaign. She began the year with first-round exits in Adelaide and Hobart but did pick up her first win of the season at the Australian Open against former slam finalist Leylah Fernandez. Yastremska’s experience may just give her the edge over Tjen, who is still lacking consistency with her results on the WTA Tour.
