Dayan Yastremska reached the third round of the Cincinnati Open for the second time in here career after beating Viktoriya Tomova in three sets. It was a somewhat erratic display from the Ukrainian, whose troubles on serve led to seven double faults and just 52% of points won behind her first serve.

The 25-year-old did, however, hold her nerve in the crucial moments to book a fifth career meeting with second seed Coco Gauff.

Gauff endured some service troubles of her own in the second round, recording eight double faults, but ultimately saw off potential stumbling block Xinyu Wang 6-3, 6-2.

Having failed to win a Singles event since recording her second career Grand Slam triumph at the French Open in June, Gauff will be eager to re-assert herself as one of the leading protagonists in the women’s game, but she knows she must improve upon her consistency if she is become a regular tournament winner.

Yastremska does indeed have a win against Gauff on her record this year, when she produced one of the shocks of the first round at Wimbledon, but Gauff has won their other three career encounters. Expect a few double faults here between two players struggling a little with their serve, but Gauff has to be fancied to progress.
