Michael van Gerwen upset the formbook in his quarter-final with Peter Wright when he romped to a 6-1 victory over the world champion and that will have been a huge confidence booster to the Dutchman given that he has been struggling to find his A-game for some time. It’s also no surprise though, as he is more than capable of the 102.98 average he posted. His main problem in recent years has been maintaining a high standard on a consistent basis and that is certainly not an accusation you can throw at Jonny Clayton. The Welshman was his usual clinical self in his 6-3 win over Michael Smith and you can rely on him to produce a similar standard here. This could of course go either way given MVG's unpredictability right now but Clayton is the safer pick.
