Darja Vidmanova has made major strides in 2026, turning last season’s breakthrough into sustained progress on the tour. The Czech has climbed to a career-high of 75, won her maiden WTA 125 title in Figueira da Foz and reached another 125 final in Oeiras. More impressively, she reached her first WTA Tour final in Memphis, beating Sloane Stephens, Katie Volynets and Renata Zarazua before losing in three sets to qualifier Kristina Liutova. She subsequently reached the Monterrey Open quarter-finals, though her US Open campaign ended at the first-round stage after a loss to Jessica Bouzas Maneiro. 

It has also been a positive campaign for Maria Timofeeva, who has moved inside the top 100 and won two WTA 125 titles earlier this year. She has also reached the second-round at both Wimbledon and the US Open. She arrives in Beijing immediately after winning a title in Porto, her third of the campaign.

Both have made substantial progress this year, but Vidmanova is on a three-match losing run, while Timofeeva has considerably greater momentum.
