Daria Snigur broke new ground last time out as she reached her first tour-level final at the Prague Open. The 24-year-old beat Tereza Valentova in the semi-finals, but she was unable to win the title after a loss against Lilli Tagger. It’s still been a really strong year for Snigur, with two ITF titles and a third-round appearance at Wimbledon. She is up to her highest ever ranking of 43 in the world.
Her first-round opponent is fellow Ukrainian Yuliia Starodubtseva. Her losing run extended to five matches last time out as she was defeated by Maya Joint in Toronto. Starodubtseva is without a victory on the tour since the beginning of June, and she has dropped to 77 in the live rankings.
Snigur did not feature at the Canadian Open and she will be well rested for this one. Starodubtseva is under pressure to deliver after a period of poor results.
