Daria Snigur won her second main draw WTA 1000 match of the campaign at the Cincinnati Open as she beat compatriot Yuliia Starodutseva in straight sets. Snigur broke on four separate occasions as she clinched a 6-4 6-3 victory after one hour and 41 minutes. She reached the final of the Prague Open last month.
Her next opponent is Madison Keys. The American won this event back in 2019. She could only manage a third-round appearance at the Canadian Open as she was heavily beaten by Marta Kostyuk, winning just four games in total. Keys did win a third Eastbourne Open title earlier this year, but she is now outside the world’s top 20 in the rankings.
Snigur has won five of her last six matches and her flat ball-striking could make this an awkward opening encounter for Keys. The American still remains the favourite to win due to her hard court pedigree.
